While Presenting the Annual Budget for the year 2011-12, Hon’ble Chief Minister announced setting up of institute of Hydrology and Water Management at Bikaner. The Committee constituted by Water Resources Department recommended that instead of direct setting up a separate institute for Hydrology and Water management, which may take 3-4 years in setting up and further 2-3 years for smooth working, with a cost of more than Rs. 133.00 crore, it will be better to start this as a Regional Centre of IMTI Kota on priority. This centre may be upgraded to a full fledge independent institute of Hydrology and Water Management in a phased manner. This centre will start functioning soon with a small amount of Rs. 25.00 crore only. This centre will be considered as a step towards fulfilling the budget announcement of Hon’ble Chief Minister to cater the needs of desert area.
